The space is evolving.

That doesn’t mean measurement is impossible. It means it requires more deliberate effort, more manual work in some cases, and more comfort with directional indicators rather than precise metrics. But for brands making real AEO investments, understanding what’s working isn’t optional — it’s the foundation for knowing where to double down and where to adjust.

Here’s a practical framework for AEO measurement that reflects what’s actually available and useful right now.

What You’re Actually Trying to Measure

Before getting into specific metrics and methods, it’s worth being clear about what AEO success looks like at a high level.

You’re not just trying to rank for keywords. You’re trying to be the brand that AI tools reach for when they’re generating answers in your topic space. That means:

Citation presence: Is your brand being named, cited, or linked in AI-generated responses to relevant queries?
